Student Voice

Student voice is an essential component of our school’s approach to creating an inclusive, responsive, and dynamic learning environment. By actively involving students in decision-making processes, we empower them to have a direct impact on shaping the direction of their education and school community. Our commitment to student voice is reflected in several key areas of school life.

One of the central ways we ensure student voice is heard is through our Student Council. A cross section of years 7-11, this group of representatives acts as a bridge between students and staff, allowing students to voice their opinions, ideas, and concerns. Our student ambassadors play a key role in our work on equality and diversity, ensuring that all voices are heard and that every student feels respected and valued. Through their efforts, we are able to create a more inclusive, welcoming school environment for everyone.

Regular questionnaires on student well-being give all students an opportunity to provide feedback on their experiences, ensuring we remain responsive to their needs and continuously improve the school environment.

Students play an active role in the recruitment of new staff. By participating in student panels, they ensure that new teachers and staff align with the values of the school and are equipped to support the learning and development of all students. This collaborative approach to staff recruitment promotes a sense of ownership and responsibility in the school community.

Student voice is also a critical part of our curriculum quality assurance process. Through feedback and discussion, students provide valuable insights into the relevance, effectiveness, and engagement of their learning experiences. This feedback helps us continually refine and enhance the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners.

Our older students take on additional leadership roles as transition mentors, guiding new students as they adapt to the school. This peer support system fosters a sense of belonging and helps ease the transition for newcomers, building a supportive and connected school culture.

Incorporating student voice in all aspects of school life not only strengthens the sense of community but also supports students' personal growth and development, preparing them to be active, engaged citizens.

Sixth Form

The Sixth Form Committee is a student-led group that meets approximately once a fortnight to discuss and plan various activities. These meetings focus on organizing fundraising events for both charity and the Sixth Form itself. Past events have included the Christmas Fair, Valentine’s Day and Halloween celebrations, mental health awareness initiatives, and fundraising for various charities chosen by students. In addition to these events, the committee also looks at ways to improve the Sixth Form experience, discussing issues that affect students on a day-to-day basis.

While the committee is student-led, Miss Aston plays a key role in guiding the meetings and coordinating the initiatives that come from students. The group also explores ideas for Sixth Form rewards and different topics of interest for students, such as potential learning opportunities or subjects to explore. The committee provides a platform for students to voice their ideas and concerns, working together to create a better and more engaging Sixth Form environment.
